Fue director del Departamento de Servicios Estudiantiles del Instituto de Estuidos Superiores (hoy, Universidad APEC).El estudiante es el centro de la vida universitaria, su motivo y su razón de ser. Esto es cierto, más que nada, en las universidades que se conciben a sí mismas como entidades que promueven el cambio social, la democratización de los esquemas de poder en nuestras sociedades. En los centros de educación superior así concebidos, el fracaso en los estudios no solo es un problema privado del estudiante, sino también una derrota de todo el sistema educativo como tal (y de la sociedad en su conjunto) en su intento de brindar la oportunidad para el perfeccionamiento integral de las capacidades de todos sus discentes. Es por eso que en las universidades se han perfilado las llamadas unidades de “servicios estudiantiles”, organismos internos encargados de suministrar la ayuda y orientaciones necesarias (educativas, psicológicas, institucionales, formativas, etc.) que permitan no solo la superación de los problemas que enfrenten los alumnos en sus estudios, sino también el que estos se sientan parte activa y central de una comunidad humana que ve en ellos las posibilidades de mejores transformaciones sociales. Desigualdades educativas y género: análisis de las contradicciones entre el sistema educativo y el mercado laboral

Desde hace décadas, las mujeres obtienen mejores resultados en el sistema educativo. Esta realidad educativa parece no traducirse en resultados en el mercado de trabajo, ya que se siguen dando amplias desigualdades de género en términos de participación laboral, retribución o promoción. Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado tiene el objetivo de analizar las diferencias de género en el sistema educativo y en el mercado laboral, para abordar la aparente contradicción entre las dos esferas. Para ello, se parte de un marco teórico que repasa tanto las teorías del capital humano y sus alternativas, como la teoría de la correspondencia o la visión de la teoría crítica feminista, realizando posteriormente un análisis estadístico descriptivo. Los resultados muestran que las desigualdades de género del mercado laboral no tienen relación con los resultados educativos. En este sentido, la teoría de la correspondencia y teoría crítica feminista ofrecen una explicación más certera, ya que posicionan el proceso de socialización como un aspecto clave en la explicación de las desigualdades.From decades, women have been achieving better results in the education system. This educational reality does not seem to be replicated into results in the labour market. Wide gender inequalities continue to exist in terms of labour participation, earnings, or promotion. This Final Degree Project aims to analyse gender differences in the education system and in the labour market, in order to address the contradiction between the two spheres. In order to do this, a theoretical framework is used that reviews both theories of human capital and its alternatives, as well as the theory of correspondence and the vision of critical feminist theory. Then, a descriptive statistical analysis is carried put. The results show that gender inequalities in the labour market are not related to educational outcomes. In this sense, correspondence theory and feminist critical theory offer 5 a more accurate explanation, since they position the socialization process as a key aspect in the explanation of inequalities.Departamento de Sociología y trabajo socialGrado en Economí

Ionic liquids in the pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass

The pretreatment is a key step in the processing of lignocellulosic biomass for its transformation into chemicals and materials of biorenewable origin. Ionic liquids, with their characteristic set of unique properties, have the potential to be the basis of novel pretreatment processes with higher effectiveness and improved sustainability as compared to the current state-of-the-art processes. Estimating the COP Exchange Rate Volatility Smile and the Market Effect of Central Bank Interventions: A CHARN Approach

In this paper we estimated a volatility model for COP/US under two different samples, one containing the information before the “discretional interventions” started, and the other using the whole sample. We use a nonparametric approach to estimate the mean and “volatility smile” return functions using daily data. For the pre-interventions sample, we found a nonlinear expected return function and, surprisingly, a nonsymmetric “volatility smile”. These lack of linearity and symmetry are related to absolute returns above 1,5% and 1,0%, respectively. We also found that the “discretional interventions” did not shift the mean response function, but moved the expected returns along the line towards the required levels. In contrast, the “volatility smile” tends to increase in a non-symmetric way after accounting for “discretional interventions”. The Sep/29/2004 announcement does not seem to have had any effect on the expected conditional mean or variance functions, but the Dec/17/2004 announcement seems to be related to non-symmetric effects on the volatility smile. Performance evaluation of space-time block coding using a realistic mobile radio channel

This paper presents a performance evaluation of space-time block coding (STBC) employing a realistic mobile radio channel model in macrocellular and urban environments. The bit error rate (BER) is computed by Monte-Carlo simulations in the down-link to evaluate its sensitivity to channel correlation. We consider a horizontal uniform linear array at the base station (BS) formed by up to four antenna elements, and one and two uncorrelated antenna elements at the mobile station (MS). The channel model includes the probability density function (pdf) of the azimuth and delay of the impinging waves and their expected power conditioned on the azimuth and delay. The statistical properties of the model are extracted from macrocellular measurements made in urban environments. Simulation results show that the use of STBC can provide significant gains with acceptable sensitivity to the channel correlation under realistic conditions.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Centro capacitador de agricultura urbana La Concordia

Trabajo de gradoEl presente documento, es el resultado de una investigación realizada en torno a un proyecto que busca implementar áreas verdes en una zona determinada, esta estará ubicada bajo los cerros orientales específicamente en la Concordia (Bogotá).
